Jonathan Bowden

Jonathan David Anthony Bowden, né le 12 avril 1962 et décédé le 29 mars 2012, était un auteur et un militant politique britannique.

Biographie

Né dans le Kent, Jonathan Bowden effectue ses études secondaires à Reading dans le Berkshire. Il entame un cursus en histoire au Birkbeck College de l'université de Londres, mais il finit par abandonner. Grand lecteur, il sera largement autodidacte.

Jonathan Bowden a souvent déclaré avoir commencé à militer au sein du Parti conservateur, mais cela semble contesté.

En 1990, il rejoint le Western Goals Institute et, le 4 octobre de la même année, il adhère au Conservative Monday Club. Début 1991, il se porte candidat pour le Conseil exécutif du Club. Il y est élu mais est contraint de démissionner à la fin de l'année suite à des conflits avec d'autres membres du Conseil exécutif.

En 1992, Bowden fonde avec Stuart Millson, lui aussi ancien membre du Conservative Monday Club, le Revolutionary Conservative Caucus. Toutefois, les deux fondateurs entrent en conflit et le groupe se dissout en 1994.

Bowden participe à la création de la revue Right Now !.

Il rejoint ensuite le Freedom Party, dont il devient le trésorier.

En 2003, Bowden s'engage au British National Party (BNP), où il est nommé responsable culturel. En juillet 2007, il démissionne du BNP à la suite de conflits avec d'autres membres. Il donnera toutefois encore des conférences lors d'événements du BNP jusqu'en mai 2010, mais sans y adhérer à nouveau.

Le 16 janvier 2005, il fonde avec Troy Southgate le New Right Committee, un groupe de réflexion métapolitique, qui publiera la revue de débats New Imperium et organisera une quarantaine de conférences publiques.

En raison d'une dépression nerveuse en 2010 il entre en hôpital psychiatrique. Après sa convalescence, il donner encore des conférences, mais, souffrant d'insuffisance cardiaque, son état de santé s'aggrave. Il décède le 29 mars 2012, à l'âge de 49 ans.
